B2G - Day 7 - Finale

Golfito, Costa Rica

As of 10AM, we were safely anchored in Golfito. From anchor up (mooring cast off) to anchor down was a total of 7 days and 35 minutes. Call it a week?

Our last day of this passage saw some of the best sailing conditions we have had. We managed to sail a bit in the morning, then a great run from around 3PM until 11PM, quite a bit of it in the direction we actually wanted to go. This was the only time under sail where we saw any speed over 4 knots, and that only briefly, but it was very rewarding nonetheless. Overall, 44% of the hours were under sail, with about 36% of the distance covered - pretty good considering the general lack of wind on this passage.

We took the mainsail down about an hour before the final approach to the narrow channel leading into Golfito. It was quite a challenge with only one lazy-jack intact - it is not a pretty sight right now at all.

Once we were anchored, we launched the dinghy and checked in with Tim at the "Land and Sea" marina, then raced around town to immigration, customs and the port captain. We had the whole check-in done in no more than an hour and a half - Golfito is certainly one of the easiest and friendliest ports to carry out this process.

The heat and humidity here are really hard to take. I'm not sure how long it will take us to get acclimatized, if ever. There is no WiFi available on the boat at anchor - will have to visit the clubhouse for that.

Total distance traveled was 620 nautical miles. The straight line course would have been 590 miles.
