Day 6
Bus ride to Sucre. 3 hours on a rather cramped bus, but the road was smooth and it was only 3 hours. From Potosi to Sucre we dropped from 4070 meters to 2800 meters and the country got greener as we went down. In spite of this, the temperature during the day is still around 17 C, and is still chilly at night.
Sucre is undoubtedly the nicest city we have seen so far in Peru or Bolivia. It has a population of about 220,000 people and, as the capital of Bolivia, has lots of parks and is generally well maintained. Very safe to walk around at night and lots of restaurants and pubs, if you are into such things.
Day 7
Free day in Sucre.
We had some options here for hiking, biking or horseback riding. Sue and some of the other girls signed up for the horses but then found out there were none available - so that did not happen. Some of the guys did some downhill biking but I elected to skip it as I felt I would just slow them down. Afterwards they did not seem too impressed with the ride so I probably made the right decision.
Instead, we did a city tour, visiting the only castle in Bolivia and getting the low-down on why the biggest park has a miniature Eiffel tower, etc.
Overall, this is a very nice place to spend a day.
